Infernal Machines

Fixing the elevator would be no easy task - various parts were missing, it lacked fuel, and proper calibrations were required to manage pressure.

I possessed neither the parts or the the knowledge to progress further in my journey to the inner sanctum. As such, I began exploring in order to learn more before The Shadow found and consumed me.

My first stop after the bedroom was "Storage", which turned out to be worse than I could have imagined. Upon entering this section of the castle, I was warned that the darkness here seemed "unnatural"; my reaction was less than heroic. I kept my tinderbox usage low. Though I had many to spare, lighting everything would be a death sentence. If one of those things were to pass by, it would see me in an instant. My fear turned out to be justified, as no sooner had I found one of the required levers when I heard a sickening noise in the room behind me. Terrified, I turned out my lantern and hid in the darkness, catching only a glimpse of the thing that nearly caught me.

Moving about, I heard a female voice crying and pleading. I'd heard this voice before, but it was much stronger here. Using an explosive to clear some wreckage, I soon entered a flashback that revealed this girl was murdered.

And it may have been Daniel that did it.
